White vs. black files: white files are made of aluminum oxide — softer, more flexible, durable, with rounded abrasive grains that do not damage the nail plate. Their stearate coating prevents clogging and makes them ideal for dry filing. Black files are made of silicon carbide — harder and more brittle, with sharp abrasive grains that self-sharpen during use. They perform better on wet filing but clog faster and lack protective coating. White color is more hygienic in work: no visible scratches, and light abrasive particles remain invisible on artificial materials.
